For Tupac the words "Thug Life", which were tattooed across his abdominal area, represented a struggle of classes in the U.S. and his revolutionary ideas on how he saw himself. The self image was often correlated to the Black Panther movement by Pac and others alike.
It appears that Rihanna holds the meaning closer to her heart and took the inspirational meaning from concept to fruition as she now adorns the words across her fingers. It was no secret that she felt this way, the pop star was pictured last September (2011) blowing kisses to fans on the balcony of her hotel in Brazil with the words written on her hands in a pink Sharpie pen.
It, of course, is not hard to think of Rihanna as a rebel so the parallels between her and Pac aren't necessarily so far fetched. After posting a picture of her new art work tattooed in pink ink the singer accompanied the picture with the message: "All these bitches screaming that 2pack back. #Thuglife.”
In response to some of the feedback that she has been receiving on her tattoo, she stated "I'm thinking I shoulda got a tear drop instead!!! Thuglife maybe next time."
