Katy Perry has landed her sixth No. 1 hit on the Billboard Pop Songs chart from album 'Teenage Dream,' which has shattered Justin Timberlake and Lady GaGa's record at four No. 1 singles. The Pop Songs chart is solely based on airplay, distinct from Billboard's Hot 100, which combines airplay, sales and streaming.
Currently, struggling with separation from her husband Russell Brand, the pop sensation can take solace in her latest achievement. This achievement should not be a foreign feeling for Perry as she now has eight No.1 hit singles. This positions her in second place behind Rihanna with nine No.1 singles but above GaGa, Pink and Britney Spears with seven each.
Capitol Records Executive VP Greg Thompson praised Perry by telling Billboard, "[It's] tremendous recognition for one of the most talented artists in the world. We couldn't be happier for Katy." Senior VP Dennis Reese said, "No artist has worked harder and deserves (the honor) more than Katy."
In related news, Perry recently joined Actor/Jewelry designer Markus Molinari to celebrate the grand opening of 1 OAK Las Vegas and the GiveLove charity event at 1 OAK at the Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. She wore a beaded LBD and showed off her bright blue hair.
Perry reportedly chose to step out for the event because of Molinari. "I told her about the cause and she wanted to support it," he told Us Weekly. "We support each other and that's what friends do."
The charity aims "to provide temporary housing solutions and sanitation systems in earthquake-stricken Haiti."
