Despite what the media and critics say, Nicki Minaj is adamant that she and Lady Gaga are two different artists in their individual lane, where their "paths never cross."
In an interview with ABC Nightline's Juju Chang, Minaj spoke on how peeved she was with the Gaga comparisons, unable to find any similarities between the two herself. When Chang mentions the similarities when it came to wearing wigs and over-the-top outfits, Minaj shut them both down, noting, "Every female in this game wears wigs. Over the top costumes? Eeh, try again."
In actuality, the main similarity between the two is that they have been dominating the pop industry and taking over the charts. Although Minaj has been labeled more of a "pop" artist, she maintains that she's still a hardcore rapper.
And with being a mainstream artist, the "Super Bass" singer has found success by writing and singing catchy hooks that appeal to fans of all ages. With fans ranging from young to old, Minaj has made more of a conscious effort to appease parents and make sure her shows and music are kid-friendly. But despite that, she mentions that she never intended to enter the game to target children.
The Young Money leading lady also spoke on her wardrobe malfunction on Good Morning America, female empowerment, as well as her alter-egos possibly being a subconscious creation to dealing with her family issues, including her drug-abusing father.
