Singer-songwriter John Mayer recently told Rolling Stone Magazine that he was “humiliated” by Taylor’s song “Dear John” which she inadvertently hinted was about John Mayer after the end of their almost one year-relationship.
The song is featured on Swift’s hit album “Speak Now,” and includes the lyrics, “"Dear John, I see it all, now it was wrong/Don't you think 19 is too young to be played by your dark twisted games, when I loved you so?"
About the lyrics, Mayer tells Rolling Stone, "It made me feel terrible because I didn't deserve it," the “Your Body is a Wonderland” singer said. "I'm pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do."
Mayer goes on to explain that the song was seemingly written out of nowhere, as he wasn’t notified prior to its release. "I never got an e-mail. I never got a phone call. I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I'd already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you've ever been, someone kicked you even lower?"
He continues, going on to describe the quality of songwriting as a “kind of cheap songwriting,” since it was written out of spite. “I think it's abusing your talent to rub your hands together and go, 'Wait till he gets a load of this!' That's bulls***.”
Mayer has made revealing comments about ex-girlfriends Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston in the past, and apologized in May 2012 for them telling NPR's Guy Raz , “I was going through a time in my life where I didn't really want to share what was going on, but I didn't want to be boring."
Is this just another case of another case of dishing it out can not being able to take it?
