Green Day Returns With Three Albums, Billboard Cover

Green Day is back and here to stay for sometime thanks to a trilogy of albums to be released over the next year.

In their just released Billboard magazine cover story (available now), Green Day discusses their forthcoming trilogy, the formula and just how they plan to get new music to fans.

"Putting out even a double-record, let alone a triple-record, it didn't seem like it would work for us in this day and age," says Billie Joe Armstrong. "We wanted all of it to come out because we were proud of it, and then I was thinking in terms of volumes - one, two and three. I was in my kitchen and thought, 'What if we called them "Uno," "Dos," "Tré," just as a joke?' And I told my wife about it and she said, 'Actually that's kind of a brilliant idea."

Bringing the idea to the guys and eventually the the label, it all came together.

"Then I brought it to the guys and asked them what they thought. They let it sink in and said yeah. Put my photo on the first one, Mike on the second one and Tré on the third," says Armstrong.

The result is a collection of music they are proud of and know fans will enjoy.

"!Uno!," the first album will be released September 25. The other two will follow at later date.

In related news, Billboard cameras were behind the scenes at the cover photoshoot. Watch behind the scenes video below to see what they guys have to say about this project and more.

Update: "¡Uno!," "¡Dos!" and "¡Tré!" will be released Sept. 25, Nov. 13 and Jan. 15, respectively.
