Miley Cyrus Channels Soul, R&B and Pharrell For New Music

Miley Cyrus has a thing for award-winning producer Pharrell Williams -- at least, musically.

Speaking highly of Pharrell and a recent studio session, Cyrus said they became close instantly.

"[He's] like the dopest person on the planet. He really is just so insane and he's become just like family. I've never met someone where it's been kind of like deja vu, you feel like you've known them before, [but] that's exactly how our first session was," says Cyrus.

Hoping to release music as early as November, Cyrus has been listening to soul and R&B music heavily.

"My boyfriend was filming a movie in New Orleans, so I got into the older Motown Sound vibe, which is really fun to mix with this country pop sound. I listened to a lot of Irma Thomas and tried to get that old soul into it, too," she tells Rolling Stone

"I worked with Pharrell on a bunch of things, and Pop & Oak, and I've just been writing, mostly, focusing on what I want to say, rather than turning it into a label later and not knowing what my sound is going to be," Cyrus went on to say.

In related news, Miley is letting her voice be heard by participating in a new public service announcement for Rock The Vote. Watch it here.
